The original caption may contain language which is historic and which may no longer be considered appropriate. It has been retained in the record in the interest of historical accuracy. The caption on the reverse of the photograph reads: "A mobile infant welfare unit. Picture shows personell (sic) of the mobile infant welfare unit. On the left is Sister A.Ellison, S.R.N., who is in charge of the unit". In January 1942 the mobile infant welfare unit was presented to the Ministry of Health by Boots, who also maintained and staffed the unit. It was allocated to Southampton and Portsmouth and could travel to areas where air raids and bombing had disrupted regular child welfare services.
