The Festival of Britain was a national exhibition, the centrepiece of which was the South Bank Exhibition in London, which ran from 3rd May 1951 until 30th September 1951. The Dome of Discovery contained exhibitions on the theme of discovery, and took visitors on a journey from land and sea to outer space. Along with many of the festival's other structures, the Dome of Discovery was demolished following the end of the festival.
