Market Cross, Chichester, West Sussex, 1952. The Market Cross, viewed from the west. The Market Cross was built in around 1500, with the belfry and clock being added in 1724. The cross was originally set within a large square, since built upon. As the population of Chichester grew, the market was moved from the Market Cross to the Market House on North Street in the early 19th century.
