Dorothy Vernon's Bridge, Haddon Hall, Nether Haddon, Derbyshire Dales, Derbyshire, 1950-1964. A view from Haddon Hall, looking down towards Dorothy Vernon's bridge over the River Wye. The bridge derives its name from the legend that Dorothy Vernon (1544-1584), the heiress of Haddon Hall, escaped over this bridge to elope with her lover during the festivities of her sister's wedding.
