Dewey medal, c. 1898. 'In Memory of the Victory of Manila Bay, May 1 1898'. The Battle of Manila Bay took place during the Spanish-American War, and was fought between the American Asiatic Squadron under Commodore George Dewey, and the Spanish Pacific Squadron under Contraalmirante (Rear admiral) Patricio Montojo. Designed by Daniel Chester French.
