Fragment of a Ceremonial Ballgame Yoke, A.D. 700/800. During ballgames in Mesoamerica, a padded yoke was worn by players to protect the torso. Carved stone yokes were intended as ceremonial emblems or trophies and were not used in play. Totonac, El Tajín and vicinity, Veracruz, Mexico.
