Harehills Primary School, Markham Avenue, Harehills, Leeds, 09/03/1989. Children working at tables in a classroom at Harehills Primary School, Leeds. Laing's Yorkshire Region division built three schools as a combined £4m contract for Leeds City Council. Whitecote, Harehills and Whingate primary schools were all built between September 1987 and September 1988. All three were of traditional brick and block construction with hipped tiled roofs. The design followed the same template but Whingate was a mirror image of the other two. All of Laing's documents about the contract refer to Harehills Primary School but elsewhere it is known as Bankside Primary School. It is unclear when this became the school's official name. There is another school on Darfield Road called Harehills Primary School. It was built to the same template but is a mirror image of the Markham Avenue site. Bankside Primary was demolished and replaced with a larger modern school building between 2009 and 2010.
