Book-Plate of Olive Custance (Lady Alfred Douglas), 1897. English poet Olive Custance was a contributor to literary periodical The Yellow Book. Beardsley was its first art editor but publisher John Lane dispensed with Beardley's services in the wake of the Oscar Wilde scandal. Wilde had a homosexual affair with Lord Alfred Douglas, who later repudiated Wilde, and married Olive Custance in 1902. From "The Best of Beardsley" edited by R. A.
