St George's Hospital, Blackshaw Road, Tooting, Wandsworth, London, 23/03/1989. The exterior of the newly completed St James Wing at St George's Hospital, Tooting, looking north and showing the entrance to the Accident & Emergency Department. The Accident & Emergency Department opened in December 1988 just a week before a rail crash near Clapham on the 12th. Casualties from the accident were treated at the new facility, and some Laing staff present on site finishing post contract work lent a hand as porters for the sudden influx of injured people. This photograph appeared in the September 1989 issue of Team Spirit, the Laing company newsletter.
