St Thomas' Hospital, Lambeth Palace Road, Lambeth, London, 28/02/1977. Looking along the central avenue between four new blocks at St Thomas' Hospital, with the hospital sign in the foreground, from the east. Work on Phase II of a rebuilding project at St Thomas' Hospital was undertaken by Laing and began in early 1969 and was completed in 1975. This phase included a new ward block, operating suites, outpatients' department, research institute, nurses' home and nurses' training school. Phase I had been completed in 1966 by Sir Robert McAlpine and Sons; Phase III of the project was planned to begin in 1975.
