Capture of the "Anne D. Richardson" Slaver, by H.M. Steam-Frigate "Pluto", 1850. The Royal Navy intercepts an American slave ship. 'The Captain of the Pluto then went on board, and asked for [the captain of the slaver's] papers, which he produced, with the exception of the manifest of his cargo...The Captain [of the Pluto] decided upon detaining her on suspicion [and told the captain of the slave ship] that he would be sent to an American man-of-war, unless he opened his hatches and proved he was an honest trader. The main hatchway was then opened, and, on our men going below, they found the slave deck, and a Brazilian crew, 13 in number, concealed there'. From "Illustrated London News", 1850.
