The late Louis-Philippe, Ex-King of the French, 1850. Portrait of former French king Louis Philippe I, surrounded by vignettes of incidents from his life. He died at Claremont, a royal residence in Surrey. 'Dr. Chomel, the eminent physician of Paris, was summoned to Claremont, but his skill proved of no avail, and on him devolved the melancholy duty of communicating to the ex-Monarch his approaching dissolution. He received the sad information with calmness, on Sunday morning last, in the presence of the ex-Queen, and then prepared for the final arrangements which he wished to make. He then called for General Dumas, and dictated to him a few pages to conclude his memoirs, which he had commenced some months previously, but which illness bad compelled him to suspend'.
