Nimroud Sculptures, just received at the British Museum - Supposed Kitchen and Pavilion, 1850. 'The wheel-like figure with serrated projections, on the left of the composition, is supposed to be intended to exhibit the ground-plan of a circular building, surrounded by embattled turrets, in which various culinary processes are being carried on. Of the two upper subjects in it, that: to the left shows a female superintending the boiling of provisions in earthen pots or jars...supported on frames resembling tripods; the females to the right are evidently engaged in grinding corn; the sitting figure is working a hand-mill. Below, two figures are in the act of dressing the carcase of some animal...while, in the opposite compartment, a baker is seen tending his oven...two figures dancing, attired in masks resembling the heads of lions or leopards'. From "Illustrated London News", 1850.
