The Swiney Bequest Silver Cup, designed by D. Maclise, R.A., 1850. Exhibition at the Society of Arts in London, of specimens of recent British manufacture. 'The Prize Cup...has been ably designed by Mr Maclise, R.A.; modelled by Mr. W. F. Spencer; and manufactured in silver by Messrs. Garrard, of the Haymarket. The cover is surmounted by a figure of Justice, with Vengeance and Mercy on either side; in the centre is a niello, representing a Hall of Justice; and on the foot are four kneeling figures, as slaves'. The cup was to be given to the author of the best published work on "Medical Jurisprudence", by the Society of Arts jointly with the members of the College of Physicians...the prize was adjudged as directed to Drs. Paris and J. M. Fonblanque, as the joint authors of the best published work on "Medical Jurisprudence".' From "Illustrated London News", 1850.
