The Building in Hyde Park for the Great Exhibition of 1851 - General View of the Works, 1850. 'The scene on the ground is one of infinite bustle, and yet order. The immense number of hands employed, the various processes going on at the same time-huge waggons arriving with girders, pillars, pipes, &c., and empty waggons departing; providing the girders, carrying the pillars to their destinations, men carrying planks and sash-bars, the whirr of steam-engines, the clank of hammers, the rivetting of the wrought-iron girders, and the ever and anon raising of a fresh column or girder, with all the quick movements consequent thereon-form an unparalleled picture, in keeping with the vast space in which these preparations are going on.'
