Wreck of the "Orion" at Low Water, 1850. The Orion paddle steamer struck a submerged rock near Portpatrick Lighthouse, Wigtownshire, Scotland. 41 of the 200 passengers on board died. View of '...the. wrecked ship as she lay sunk at Portpatrick, about two gun-shots north of the lighthouse; the deck being then considered 18 feet under water, and the top of one of the paddle-boxes being just seen above, it being low-water when she struck.'
