The Regatta, at Montreal, 1850. '...the citizens of Montreal [in Canada, decided on] the necessity of preparing a suitable display of Canadian industry, for exposition at the Great Industrial Congress of 1851 [to be held in London. It was therefore] '...decided to hold a Grand Provincial Industrial Exhibition, in the city of Montreal'. A regatta was held as part of the celebrations: view '...from the Island Wharf [showing] the Exterior of the large Bonsecour Market, the great centre of attraction during the days of the Exhibition...the River St. Lawrence...the Island and Fort of St. Helen's, which commands the entrance to the port of Montreal...the Rotunda...adorned with numerous flags; and thousands of the visitors availed themselves of the opportunity of taking a view from its elevated and commanding position'.
