Regalia of Scotland: Jewel of St. Andrew, 1850. '...the order of St. Andrew, cut on an onyx, set with diamonds...'. Badge of the Order of the Thistle, which formed part of the original Garter Jewel. The onyx cameo of St. Andrew displays the influence of the Italian Baroque. It is probably early eighteenth century French or Italian. The setting probably replaced an earlier stone representing St George. From "Illustrated London News", 1850.
