Mayoralty Chain for the Corporation of Carlisle, [in Cumbria], 1850. 'The Gas-works of the Carlisle Gas-light and Coke Company have just been transferred to the Corporation of that city; and, to commemorate the transaction, the Company have presented the Mayor, aldermen, and citizens a splendid Gold Chain and badge, to be worn by their chief magistrate during his year of office. The present Mayor, the first to wear these new insignia, is Joseph Rome, Esq. The Chain consists of 52 links, and is 42 inches in length: attached is a Badge, with the arms of the city of Carlisle enamelled in proper colours. The value of the Chain and Badge is £200. It is from the establishment of Messrs. Hunt and Roskell (late Storr and Mortimer), 156, New Bond-street, London'. From "Illustrated London News", 1850.
