The Allied Fleets and Armies at Varna, 1854. Crimean War: warships on the Black Sea, off the Bulgarian coast. '...the Allied Fleets and Armies at Varna, sketched on June 24. The scene is deeply interesting. In the bay, part of the English, French, and Turkish Fleets are lying at anchor; dozens of English and French transports are also there. The Allied Army lies encamped on the plains near Varna, looking over the fresh water Lake of Devna. The whole force of the Allied Army approaches 50,000. The best feeling prevails among the officers and men on both sides; and all are now only waiting for the word to advance. The View is taken from a Turkish fort, at a short distance from Varna'.
