Goodwood Race Prize - Arab Group in the Desert, 1854. Horse racing trophy. 'Cup...executed by Messrs. Garrard, of the Haymarket, and represents an Arab horseman receiving a pitcher of water in the desert from a woman stationed by the side of a well The artist has introduced a child, a she-goat, and a kid, with good accessorial effect; two palm-trees wave over the heads of all these, and render the general composition very pleasing. Mr. Cotterill, by whom the whole has been designed, during his recent visit to the East, had many opportunities of seeing Oriental scenery and costume, and he has availed himself of his experience to produce figures truthful and accurately characteristic. The woman, the horse, and the Arab rider, are very life-like'. From "Illustrated London News", 1854.
