Marriage Procession of the Sultan's Daughter, at Constantinople, 1854. Celebrations for the wedding of Fatma Sultan, aged 14, and Ali Galip Pasha. 'The nuptials of Fathma Sultane and Ali Gholib Pacha...have just been celebrated, with great magnificence...at the Palace of Baltaliman. [Taking part in the procession were:]...A band of music on horseback...Turkish Grandees, in suits splendidly embroidered with gold, and riding fine Arabian horses...The Sheik-ul-Islam (Turkish Pope), in snow-white garments...A number of Eunuchs. The [bride's] golden carriage, drawn by six fine English black horsess...the Chief of the Eunuchs, his breast covered with stars and cordons; he wears a General's epaulettes, and his dress is embroidered all over...the Chief of Ulemas, an aged man dressed in white...servants on foot, wearing the Sultan's livery...'.
