The Lower Canadian Agricultural Exhibition, 1854. Annual Exhibition of the Lower Canadian Agricultural Society, held on the Plains of Abraham, Quebec...'About 5000 persons received admission during the day, and it was impossible to walk among the assembly and hear its conversation carried on in English and French indifferently, and not be struck by the complete fusion of races which it has been the constant aim of Lord Elgin to effect, and in which he has so signally succeeded...The stock exhibited showed a marked improvement over former years; the horses especially were much and deservedly admired; but the Society have still much to effect in the improvement of other descriptions of cattle'. From "Illustrated London News", 1854.
