New Church, built by Sir Benjamin Hall, at Abercarn, South Wales, 1854. Church provided '...for the sole use of the native Cymri...The edifice is built of the fine stone of the locality...The sculpture of the stone corbels and mullions of the windows is very fine, but devoid of all fantastic ornaments...the style is the simple, solid architecture of the oldest ecclesiastical edifices in Wales, with a belfry, but no tower...The whole proceedings were arranged with the strictest attention to the benefit of the Welsh people, by the establishment of a commodious Church, where they can be certain of regular services in their own language...Sir Benjamin Hall had given especial orders that everything on this occasion should be done consistently, and in reality; and that the Church should not be nominally, but actually, appropriated to the use of his countrymen'.
