Interesting Greek vase discovered at Capua, 1854. Detail from ancient pottery found in Italy. The four figures of the Seasons surround the Cantharus, divided by Bacchic emblems and festal decorations. First, after the candelabrum, comes Winter (rich with the spoils of the chase), the season considered by the ancients as most suitable for marriage; then follows Spring, with a flower in her hand; succeeded by Summer and Autumn, each bearing the fruity wealth of the period...'.
