The Christmas Dole, 1854. People gathered in a church for the traditional custom of handing out money to the poor. At the village of Tichborne in Hampshire, the Dole takes place every year on March 25th, the Feast of the Annunciation (Lady Day). The custom dates back to the 13th century.
