Later renamed the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, the museum holds Roosevelt's East African flora and fauna specimens collected during the Smithsonian-Roosevelt African Expedition of 1909-10. The expedition collected around 11,400 animal specimens, which took Smithsonian naturalists eight years to catalogue.
