Mucius Scaevola Putting His Hand in the Flame before Porsenna, n.d. The Roman youth Mucius thrusts his right hand into a fire and holds it there without giving any indication of pain. Clusian king Lars Porsena, amazed at the youth's bravery, dismissed him from the Etruscan camp, free to return to Rome.
