London Fields Lido, London Fields West Side, Hackney, Hackney, Greater London Authority, 2006. An elevated view of the London Fields Lido, Hackney, seen from the west, with steam rising from the water and snow covering the surrounding park. London Fields Lido was opened in 1932 and was the second outdoor pool to be opened by London County Council. It closed in 1988 and became derelict. After £2.5 million of refurbishments by Space & Place Architects (S+P Architects), the pool was re-opened in 2006. This photograph was probably taken from the tower block of 1-46 Morland Estate on London Fields West Road. The pool is heated and the water is kept at a constant 25 degrees, and therefore steam rises from the pool on cold days.
