John Bellingham, n.d. 'Taken at the Sessions House, Old Bailey, May 15th 1812'. British Prime Minister Spencer Perceval was shot and killed in the lobby of the House of Commons by John Bellingham, a merchant who had been wrongly imprisoned in Russia. He bore a grievance against the British government after it had rejected his petitions for compensation. Bellingham was hanged in public three days after being found guilty.
