Run Little Chillun, Los Angeles, 1938. Folk opera 'Run Little Chillun' was the first Broadway show directed by an African-American. It was one of the most successful musical dramas of the Harlem Renaissance. The Federal Theatre Project, created by the US Works Progress Administration in 1935, was designed to conserve and develop the skills of theatre workers, re-employ them on public relief, and to bring theatre to thousands in the United States who had never before seen live theatrical performances.
