Epistle from the yearly meeting of Friends Brethren in Philadelphia, 1699. 'Copied from the records in 1794...London, 26 [illegible] 1699, Dear Friends, it is the most precious everlasting Truth which the Devil is out of...we supplicate the Lord that his whole family heritage may grow & prosper, and in the life & virtue thereof be preserved to the end whatever position or gainsaying they may meet withall from either those that have not received the Truth in the love of it, & in the ignorance of their minds oppose it, or those that have turned out from the same, & kept not their habitation therein, and are gone into enmity & prejudice against it it's not strange that such are in great varience amongst themselves, biteing and devouring one another as you hint, for they are gone from that wherein true peace is, & [?] returned like the dog to his vomit, and the sow that was washed, to wallowing in the mire...'.
