Letter stating that $500 was paid for the purchase of Joseph Boswell, signed by Langhorne, 1813. Langhorne sold '...a negro man of Dark complexion called James about twenty five years of age, to have & to hold the said negro man as a slave during life to him the said Joseph Boswell his Heirs & Assigns for ever, hereby warranting & defending the said negro James free from all claim & claims of any person or persons & sound & healthy, to him the said Boswell his Heirs & Assigns for ever in testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 23rd day of January 1813 - sealed & delivered in presence of [illegible signature]'.
