Reverend Daniel Alexander Payne, educator, clergyman and author; bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, one of the founders of Wilberforce University in Ohio, the first African-American president of a college in the United States. From 'The white side of a black subject, enlarged and brought down to date; a vindication of the Afro-American race; from the landing of slaves at St. Augustine, Florida, in 1565, to the present time'.
