R. T. Greener, 1887. Scholar, philosopher, professor, diplomat and attorney Richard Theodore Greener was the first African American to graduate from Harvard College. Greener was the first Black professor at the University of South Carolina. He was associate editor for the New National Era newspaper which was owned and edited by Frederick Douglass, and was dean of the Howard University School of Law.
