Bert Williams and George Walker were multi-talented African American showmen of the minstrel era, when black performers were forced to conform to the racist stereotypes expected by white audiences. From a collection of sheet music, some examples of which depict African Americans in a derogatory way. Other examples are songs by white musicians purporting to be black.
