Treaty between Her Majesty and the republick of Texas, for the suppression of the African slave trade, 1842. '...Signed at London, November 16, 1840. Presented to both Houses of Parliament, by Command of Her Majesty [Queen Victoria], 1842. First edition. Great Britain negotiated treaties to suppress the slave trade with several nations during this period, allowing for the boarding and inspection of any vessels suspected of being engaged in the traffic of slaves. The Texas Navy was granted equal right to board British ships for this purpose. The treaty was unpopular in Texas, but was a requirement for formal recognition by Great Britain. It was nullified by the subsequent annexation of Texas by the United States in 1845.
