Comment on the Hindu custom of suttee: 'Mon cher ami, je viens vous faire mon compliment bien sincère...notre prince est décidément bien mort, et c'est à vous, le plus ancient officier du palais, qu'est èchu l'insigne honneur de conduire ses femmes sur le bûcher, où vous brûlerez avec elles!'. 'My dear chap, I have come to pay you my very sincere compliments...our prince is definitely dead, and it is to you, the most senior officer of the palace, that has fallen the signal honour of leading his wives on to the pyre, where you will burn with them!'.
