Confirmation of Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal, in the Private Chapel, Windsor Castle, 1856. Victoria, Princess Royal is confirmed by the Archbishop of Canterbury, John Bird Sumner. (Confirmation is seen as the sealing of the covenant created in baptism). Also present were her parents Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and her godfather King Leopold I of Belgium. 'The Princess Royal wore a rich white silk glacé gown, with five flounces pinked, the body richly trimmed with white ribbon and Mechlin lace...The ceremony commenced by a hymn, sung by the gentlemen and boys of the Royal Chapel of St. George...'.
