Reading the News of the Peace, at the Mansion-House, 1856. End of the Crimean War announced by the Lord Mayor of London: "...a despatch has been this morning received from the Earl of Clarenden, her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, dated Paris, the 30th, announcing that a definitive treaty for the restoration of peace, and for the maintenance of the integrity and independence of the Ottoman Empire, was yesterday signed at Paris by the Plenipotentiaries of her Majesty, of the Emperor of the French, of the King of Sardinia, and of the Sultan, and also of the Emperor of Austria, and of the King of Prussia on the one part, and of the Emperor of All the Russias on the other..."..., after which there was a general huzza and waving of hats and handkerchiefs'.
