'All the members had been invited, as well as the foreign Ministers, the Cardinals, the Ministers of the Emperor, the Marshals, the presidents of the great bodies of the State, the grand officers of the Crown, the French Ambassador at London, the Governor of the Invalides, the Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honour, the Grand Referendary of the Senate, a number of senators, deputies, high functionaries of State, and the principal civil and military officers of the household of the Emperor. His Majesty took his seat in the middle of the table...and had on his right Lord Clarendon, and on his left Count de Buol. Prince Napoleon sat opposite the Emperor, having Count Orloff on his right, and Aali Pacha on his left'. From "Illustrated London News", 1856.
