Epsom Races - "Mincepie", Winner of the Oaks, 1856. Racehorse and rider. 'Mincepie is a chestnut filly, bred by the Earl of Howth, and is now the property of H. Hill, Esq. Her sire was Sweetmeat, once celebrated on the turf, and her dam Foinnualla [sic], by Irish Birdcatcher. This is the second time the above fortunate owner has won the Oaks; having accomplished the same feat in 1848 with Cymba. The winner, Mincepie, was trained by John Day and ridden by Alfred Day. The victory in this instance will, in some degree, compensate them for the defeat of Wentworth for the Derby'. From "Illustrated London News", 1856.
