Henceforth they must, willingly or not, resign Buffalo and Elk on the rolling prairie to Yankee farmers...There is little hope for them here. Go which way they may, the land is occupied; and to remain is only to be embroiled in deadly feuds - to be shot down without hesitation and with very little remorse'.
