Ceremony of Placing the Guards' Crimean Colours in the Chapel of the Wellington Barracks, [London], 1857. 'A special guard was...formed on the parade...with the six colours, headed by the united bands of the three regiments. When it was reported to Lord Rokeby that all was ready the special guard were marched up, led by the field officer commanding the parade, the band clearing the front of the colour escort as they approached the troops, and forming at one side...The company forming the escort halted so as to form the third side of the square of troops in front of the chapel, the ensigns and colour-sergeants marching alone to the steps; on reaching the top of which the colours faced about so as to front the troops on parade, and standing in a cluster under the portico, when, under a Royal salute, followed by three cheers, they were taken into the chapel...'.
