Testimonial presented to Major-General Windham, 1857. 'This superb testimonial to the bravery of "the Hero of the Redan" [from the manufactory of Messrs. Smith and Nicholson] consists of a large gilt silver Warwick vase and pedestal [with]...branches for eight candles and cross standards of the Allied armies. The panels...bear...the General's arms - a bas-relief of the attack on the Redan, and a...bust of the General. The inscription is as follows: To Major-General Charles Aske [sic] Windham, C.B., this Vase is presented as a token of the great respect entertained for him by his friends in Warwickshire, and especially of their high admiration of those brilliant services during the Crimean War, which have not only secured for him the gratitude of his fellow-countrymen, but won for him an imperishable name in history as the "Hero of the Redan" - Leamington, 1857.
