St James' Church, Swimbridge, North Devon, Devon, 1940-1962. Detail of a lead-lined Renaissance font with wooden casing that resembles a pulpit. The font has three tiers, each of which are panelled. The lower tier has plain panels, while the middle tier has decorated panels, of which some hinge open to reveal to top of the font, as seen in the image. The top panels are also plain, but are topped with pinnacles. Above this is an open crown over and a large rectangular canopy. In the background is a chancel screen which crosses the church and was restored in 1880, and above this is an angel statuette on a wooden bar across the church. In the foreground are the ends of pews with Renaissance style carvings.
