Butter Cross, High Street, Winchester, Hampshire, 1940-1949. View of the Butter Cross, previously known as the City Cross, on the High Street, with Allen's Confectionery and the Norman Palace Tea Rooms surrounding it. View of the Butter Cross on the High Street, in front of Allen's Confectionery shop on the Pentice, and with the Norman Palace Tea Room to the right of the cross. The cross is an early 15th century cross with mulitple pinnacles and statuettes in a small alcove. The cross is on a five-step base, of which the top step is as tall as the pedestrians in the image. Because of this the whole cross is not seen in full. There are predestrians walking on the High Street and a partial view of a post box on the far left.
