Edward Montague Granville Stuart-Wortley, who has just exchanged his barony of Wharncliffe, which he held the third in succession, for the earldom of Wharncliffe and viscounty of Carlton of Carlton, in the West Riding of Yorkshire...entered the Grenadier Guards in 1846...[and] has been a Lieutenant in the 1st West York Yeomanry Cavalry and Lieutenant-Colonel of the 1st West York Rifle Volunteers'.
