The Royal Visit to India: the Taj Mahal, from the Fort, Agra, 1876. 'The Taj Mahal, at Agra, is the beautiful sepulchral edifice erected by the Mogul Emperor, Shah Jehan, for himself and his consort, whose name was Mumtazi Mahal. It is situated on the right bank of the Jumna river, outside the city of Agra, and a mile east of the Fort...The fort of Agra, which occupies most prominently all the foreground of our view, was built by Akbar long before the Taj Mahal. It contains the palace of the Moguls and the Motee Musjid, or Pearl Mosque, with some apartments now used for public offices'. From "Illustrated London News", 1876.
