Major-General the Hon. Sir Henry Ramsay, C.B., K.C.S.I., Commissioner of Kumaon, 1876. Engraving from a photograph by Saché. 'This gallant officer has seen over forty years' service in India, and during the greater part of that time has been in charge of Kumaon [in Uttarakhand]. His name has been so long and intimately associated with that district that he is known as the "King of Kumaon." It is a large territory, extending from the Terai away through the Himalayas to the snowy range. While the Prince of Wales (future King Edward VII) was in British territory all the arrangements were under Sir Henry's management'. From "Illustrated London News", 1876.
